Hi! I’m Debbie…

A born creator who once navigated the administrative maze of the business and retail worlds. Deep within, I always knew that I was destined for something more vibrant and imaginative. You see, I'm not shy about admitting that I despised the life-draining grind of corporate roles. Sunday afternoons were tarnished by the looming dread of Monday mornings, tethered to a career I truly disliked.

Then life presented me with the role of a lifetime—motherhood. Balancing the demands of work, childcare, and a two-hour daily commute was a chaotic whirlwind. I embraced my responsibilities, yet amidst the hustle, I discovered an oasis in the virtual realm of Second Life. It was here that my slumbering creative spirit awoke, and I began crafting textures and 3D models for this virtual universe.

My creative journey took root with self-taught exploits in Illustrator and Photoshop. I started with the humble Photoshop Elements, a nostalgic nod to my beginnings. Serendipity struck when I stumbled upon Creative Live, stumbling upon a transformative class by Bonnie Christine on Surface Pattern Design. Hooked instantly, I realized that this was my calling, unbeknownst even to myself.

Now nestled in Cornwall, UK, I draw inspiration from the world at large. My creative muse could be lurking anywhere, and my niche emerged organically—collaborating with local small business owners and market stallholders. At these quaint farmers' markets, I help unveil the true potential of businesses through thoughtfully crafted brand identities and harmonious designs, breathing life into logos and packaging solutions.

If you find yourself on a similar path, remember this: persevere. Your unwavering dedication and hard work will inevitably bear fruit. Should our stories resonate, I encourage you to reach out. Connect with me as we continue to embrace the captivating journey of creativity and self-discovery.

You’ve heard of Graphic Design and Illustration, but is What is Surface Pattern Design?

I’m asked this question a lot. Surface Pattern Design is the art of designing repeating patterns that are applied to surfaces on a wide array of products from wall coverings to gift wrap and textiles for fashion and home decor. Printed surfaces include paper goods, fabrics, ceramics, plastics, digital media, floor coverings, packaging…in fact, just about anything with a surface can have a pattern thrown on it!
